Wednesday December 10 - Bob Cesca
BobCescaFeather.jpg He’s been a featured blogger/columnist for the Huffington Post since August, 2005. When he’s not writing about politics, Bob is also a screenwriter, director and producer, and the founder of Camp Chaos, a new media production studio based near Philadelphia. Bob has written and produced hundreds of animated shorts as well as music videos for Iron Maiden, Meat Loaf, Everclear, Yes and Motley Crue. He’s also the creator of the politically charged animated sketch show ILL-ustrated which aired for two seasons on VH1 and MTV2. He’s also the curator of the popular blog, “Bob Cesca’s Goddamn Awesome Blog.”
Bob’s new book is titled, “One Nation Under Fear: Scaredy Cats and Fear-Mongers in the Home of the Brave (And What You Can Do About It).” In post-9/11 America, authoritarians and politicians are happily leaning on the panic button for fun, profit, and the ongoing oppression of a frightened populace. This timely book examines that fear: where it came from, how it’s promoted, and what can be done about it. Author Bob Cesca hits a bracingly wide range of targets — the right-wing noise machine, climate change deniers, creeping fascism from the Bush White House — before presenting a sober, sensible plan for fighting and overcoming this potentially irreversible trend.

TBA - Richard Belzer
RichardBelzerFeather.jpg Richard Belzer plays the acerbic Detective John Munch on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, after first portraying Munch for seven seasons on NBC’s critically acclaimed drama series Homicide: Life on the Street. In fact, Belzer has made television history by portraying Detective Munch in ten different television series, including Law & Order, The Wire, and Arrested Development. A veteran stand-up comic, writer, actor, and talk-show host, he appeared in such films as Fame and Scarface & starred in The Richard Belzer Show on Showtime, his own HBO special, Another Lone Nut, and The Belzer Connection for the SciFi Channel. Belzer is author of UFOs, JFK, and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don’t Have to Be Crazy to Believe and coauthor of How to Be a Stand-Up Comic. He divides his time between France and New York City.
In fact, Hooman Majd is in a unique position to translate between Iranian and American contexts. One of his grandfathers was a grand ayatollah (one of the highest clerical ranks in Shi’ite Islam). His father was a diplomat for the shah’s pre-revolutionary government, and Majd himself was raised and educated entirely in the West. He is frank about his youthful enthusiasm for the Islamic revolution of 1979, an enthusiasm shared at the time by the vast majority of Iranians exhausted by the shah’s police state. Nevertheless, Majd remained in the US after the revolution as a member of the community of expatriates. He spent time working in the entertainment industry before trading on his connections to the Iranian political elite (Khatami is a cousin of a cousin, for instance) to travel to and write about political affairs, international relations and culture in Iran. His sensitivity to both American and Iranian assumptions and desires makes this book indispensable for anyone trying to understand the two countries’ relationship.

Wednesday December 3 - Andrew Bacevich
AndrewBacevichFeather.jpg Andrew J. Bacevich is professor of international relations at Boston University. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of colonel. His son died last year at the age of 27 serving in Iraq. Andrew’s writings have appeared in Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic Monthly, The Nation, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. He is the recipient of a Lannan award and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Andrew is the author most recently of The New American Militarism: How Americans Are Seduced by War. His previous books include American Empire: The Realities and Consequences of U. S. Diplomacy and The Imperial Tense: Problems and Prospects of American Empire.
The Limits of Power identifies a profound triple crisis facing America: the economy, in remarkable disarray, can no longer be fixed by relying on expansion abroad; the government, transformed by an imperial presidency, is a democracy in form only; U.S. involvement in endless wars, driven by a deep infatuation with military power, has been a catastrophe for the body politic. These pressing problems threaten all of us, Republicans and Democrats. If the nation is to solve its predicament, it will need the revival of a distinctly American approach: the neglected tradition of realism. Andrew J. Bacevich, uniquely respected across the political spectrum, offers a historical perspective on the illusions that have governed American policy since 1945. The realism he proposes includes respect for power and its limits; sensitivity to unintended consequences; aversion to claims of exceptionalism; skepticism of easy solutions, especially those involving force; and a conviction that the books will have to balance. Only a return to such principles, Bacevich argues, can provide common ground for fixing America’s urgent problems before the damage becomes irreparable.

Tuesday November 11 - Stefan Forbes
StefanForbesFeather.jpg He is the director of the feature-length political documentary film Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story, which will be previewing on the PBS program Frontline tonight. He also provides a wide array of consulting services for nonprofit foundations and has produced Emmy-nominated awareness campaigns through his socially conscious production company InterPositive Media.
He recently created a series of PSA’s for the Food Bank of NYC with Charlize Theron, Mike Myers, and The Edge, and he has directed Susan Sarandon, Rosie Perez, Josh Hartnett, Julia Stiles, and Matthew Broderick for groups such as The United Way. Monday November 3 - Jill Derby
JillDerbyFeather.jpg Jill ran as the Democratic candidate for the open seat of Nevada’s 2nd congressional district in the 2006 election, gaining national attention by making this heavily Republican district competitive for the first time. In response to her defeat, she said “I got into this race to take Congress back, to restore the checks and balances that have been absent in our government, and get our country back on track to a brighter future. All that was accomplished in this election. We lost our battle but we won the war.” Following that, she served as the chairwoman of the Nevada Democratic Party from March, 2007 until February, 2008 overseeing Nevada’s first ever early presidential caucus. Jill tirelessly traveled the state working with local party activists to train caucus volunteers and encourage all Nevadans to participate in Nevada’s Caucus. Turnout for the Caucus exceeded all predictions, with 120,000 Nevadans participating at more than 1,700 precinct meetings across the state.
Currently she is running again as the Democratic candidate for Nevada’s 2nd congressional district in the 2008 election against the incumbent republican congressman Dean Heller. (Dean who?) Jill studied anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno and University of California, Davis where she earned her doctorate in 1988. She worked as a health educator and training coordinator in Saudi Arabia. She has traveled through the Himalayas and been to Cambodia to the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat. Jill has spent her career as an educator, teaching at Western Nevada Community College, Sierra Nevada College, the National Judicial College and the University of California, San Francisco. Jill served 18 years on the Nevada Board of Regents, a non-partisan, elected governing board for the Nevada System of Higher Education. As a Regent, Jill served as chairman and vice chairman.

Friday October 31 - Dina Titus
dinatitusfeather.jpg Dina Titus is a Democratic member of the Nevada Senate, representing Clark County District 7 since 1988. She has been the Minority Leader since 1993. When the state Legislature is not in session, Titus is a political science professor at University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She has taught American and Nevada government at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for 30 years.
On May 1, 2008, Dina announced that she will challenge Jon Porter for the Third Congressional Seat in Nevada. The announcement was made in the Henderson Events Plaza Amphitheater, just below the Henderson Veterans Memorial, where she reminded her supporters that it was the fifth anniversary of Bush’s pronouncement of “mission accomplished” in Iraq. Thursday October 30 - Vincent Bugliosi
VincentBugliosiFeather.jpg As a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, Vincent Bugliosi successfully prosecuted Charles Manson and several other members of his “family” for the 1969 murders of Sharon Tate and six others. He lost only one of the 106 felony cases he tried as a prosecutor, which included winning 21 out of 21 murder cases. He later wrote a book about the Manson trial called Helter Skelter, which became the biggest selling true crime book in publishing history. The book was turned into a highly successful television movie, which continues to draw high ratings in reruns.
Bugliosi successfully prosecuted 105 out of 106 felony jury trials, including 21 murder convictions without a single loss. He believes that George W. Bush should be charged with the murders of over 4,000 American soldiers who have died in Iraq since the American-led invasion of that country because of evidence Bush launched that invasion under false pretenses. His new book is titled, “The Prosecution of George W. Bush For Murder,” in which he tackles his most challenging case yet. He lays out this evidence and outlines what questions he would ask Bush at a potential murder trial. This controversial book presents a searing legal indictment against the 43rd president of the United States, arguing that he must be held accountable for crimes related to the Iraq War.

Tuesday October 28 - Colette Nelson
ColetteNelson5CropFeather.jpg Colette grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, a small suburb outside of Detroit and attended Michigan State University (MSU), where she received a bachelor’s degree in Dietetics and a minor in Dance. While at MSU, she started to develop a passion for weight training. Before she started weight training, she looked like your typical 5’5”, 120 pound aerobic instructor / modern dancer. At age 19, she started training at the Powerhouse gym in East Lansing, Michigan. That’s when she decided to give up aerobics classes and start heavy weight training. After four years at MSU, she developed so much muscle that she scared her family.
After graduating from college, Colette moved to New York City to finish her master’s degree in clinical nutrition at New York University in order to become a registered dietitian. The degree in clinical nutrition is a wonderful compliment to her personal training background. She has always loved motivating people to exercise and to take control of their health.
At the age of 24 years old and 6 years of lifting under her belt, she was ready to compete in her first bodybuilding competition. She entered several small local shows to gain confidence, and won them easily. She then decided to travel to her hometown of Detroit to compete in her first National NPC qualifier. She’s been hooked on competitive bodybuilding ever since. In 2003, Colette moved from New York City to Long Island. She started dieting insatiably for the Team Universe. Then it was on to the North Americans in Cleveland , Ohio. She won the LHW class and the overall. Colette was overjoyed to win the GOLD for the USA. This was a once in a lifetime accomplishment.

Thursday October 23 - Laurie Kilmartin
LaurieKilmartinFeather.jpg Laurie Kilmartin is not just a comedian and writer, but one of the top working comics in New York City. She is currently the deputy editor on the popular comedy web site, 23/6.com. She’s been a guest on The Today Show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Good Morning America, Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel, Showtime, Verdict with Dan Abrams, Best Week Ever (VH-1), Fox and Friends, The Big Idea with Danny Deutsch. She has been featured at comedy festivals in Montreal, Aspen and Edinburgh. She’s performed in Iraq, the United Kingdom, and 40 of the 50 United States. She has also written for CBS’s “The Late Late Show” and Comedy Central’s “Too Late with Adam Carolla.”
Like the proverbial salesman who can pawn off ice cubes to an Eskimo, Laurie delights in selling pro-choice jokes to a conservative crowd, date rape jokes to a PC crowd and high school football jokes to a Texan crowd. (Ok, that was a joke- no one can make fun of high school football in Texas). Laurie is a feminist’s nightmare. She will poke fun at rape, abortions, dating minorities, and other sensitive topics most comedians couldn’t pull off. Laurie was born and raised in a dull Northern California suburb. A former competitive swimmer (she swam for UCLA), Laurie made the switch from pool to stage in the early nineties during San Francisco’s comedy boom, and then headed for New York. In 2002, she became a staff writer for Comedy Central’s “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.”

Monday October 20 - Max Blumenthal
MaxBlumenthalFeather.jpg Max’s work has appeared in The Nation,, the Washington Monthly, The American Prospect, The Huffington Post, Salon, and Media Matters. He has appeared on MSNBC. He is the son of former Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal. He is a fellow at the New York based Nation Institute and research fellow for Media Matters for America. ( Complete article here )
He’s also investigated and reported on the religious background of Alaskan governor and Republican vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin. His resulting investigative report on this has been widely cited and referenced by researchers and in the media.
In 2003, Max Blumenthal won the Online News Association Independent Feature Award for his investigative article in Salon.com, “Day of the Dead”. “Day of the Dead” examined the mysterious killing of hundreds of women in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and the connection between these killings and the policies of the corporations with factories in the border city. Blumenthal is well known for his documentary covering the 2007 CPAC convention. It featured impromptu interviews with Michelle Malkin, David Horowitz, and Ann Coulter. Additionally, in July 2007, Blumenthal covered the 2007 College Republican National Convention in Washington, DC. He created a video titled “Generation Chickenhawk” featuring interviews with convention attendees, focusing on why they, as Iraq War supporters, had not or refused to enlist in the armed services. His newest book comes out next March… it’s titled “Republican Gomorrah: Sex, Drugs, Murder and the Anatomy of Right-Wing Destructiveness.”

Wednesday October 15 - Alicia Morgan
AliciaMorganFeather.jpg New York-born and Florida-raised, singer, song writer, musician and author Alicia Morgan taught herself to read at the age of three, and taught herself to play the piano at age nine, beginning a lifelong addiction to which there seems to be no cure. Following in the footsteps of her father, a painter and art professor, at fifteen Alicia was working at Busch Gardens in Tampa as a portrait artist, and then a cartoonist. But music soon became her primary focus, and she began her professional music career in high school. She briefly attended college, but was offered a road gig and ended her formal education after a few months.
Her credentials include performing with such artists as Al Wilson , Bobby Womack, actress/singer Sally Kellerman, Peter Tork (The Monkees), and Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night). She performed on TV shows including Roseanne, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, The Naked Truth, Almost Perfect, Phenom, and Sibs. In 1995 Alicia contributed two original songs to the movie “Beyond Desire” starring William Forsythe and Kari Wuhrer. In 2000 she was the singing voice for actress Caroline Rhea’s character in the Disney TV movie “Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire”. That year her song “Little Black Book” appeared in the movie “Bar Hopping”, starring Tom Arnold. Alicia began writing in 2004 when a friend recommended it as a way to deal with the frustration she felt with the outcome of the election. Having heard about ‘blogs’, she decided to start one of her own, and her political blog Last Left Turn Before Hooterville became her daily therapy. Her article about her experience singing on the Neil Young album Living With War garnered her world-wide, if short-lived, attention, and she was interviewed and/or quoted by the LA Times, Editors & Publishers, the London Independent, Rolling Stone and Radio France Internationale.

Monday October 13 - Senator Tom Daschle
TomDaschleFeather.jpg A much-needed and hard-hitting plan, from one of the great Democratic minds of our time, to reform America’s broken health-care system. Undoubtedly, the biggest domestic policy issue in the coming years will be America’s health-care system. Millions of Americans go without medical care because they can’t afford it, and many others are mired in debt because they can’t pay their medical bills. It’s hard to think of another public policy problem that has lingered unaddressed for so long. Why have we failed to solve a problem that is such a high priority for so many citizens? Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle believes the problem is rooted in the complexity of the health-care issue and the power of the interest groups—doctors, hospitals, insurers, drug companies, researchers, patient advocates—that have a direct stake in it. Rather than simply pointing out the major flaws and placing blame, Daschle offers key solutions and creates a blueprint for solving the crisis.
Daschle’s solution lies in the Federal Reserve Board, which has overseen the equally complicated financial system with great success. A Fed-like health board would offer a public framework within which a private health-care system can operate more effectively and efficiently—insulated from political pressure yet accountable to elected officials and the American people. Daschle argues that this independent board would create a single standard of care and exert tremendous influence on every other provider and payer, even those in the private sector. After decades of failed incremental measures, the American health-care system remains fundamentally broken and requires a comprehensive fix. With his bold and forward-looking plan, Daschle points us to the solution.

Tuesday October 7 - Hooman Majd
HoomanMajdFeather.jpg When Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran spoke at the United Nations last week, his translator was Hooman Majd. But Majd isn’t a professional translator. He’s been a record executive, a film producer, and a writer. Based in New York, he’s written for GQ, The New York Times, The New Yorker and Salon.com; he’s also a contributing editor at Interview, and he contributes occasionally to The Huffington Post. His new book is called The Ayatollah Begs to Differ: The Paradox of Modern Iran. It might give you pause to know that the author of The Ayatollah Begs to Differ: The Paradox of Modern Iran worked as a translator for Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad, and served as an advisor to former president Mohammad Khatami on his tour of the US in 2006. He may very well have been the one who translated some of Ahmadinejad’s pearls, such as “In Iran we have no gays” or that the factuality of the Holocaust requires more “research”.

Tuesday July 22 - Jeffrey Feldman
JeffreyFeldmanFeather.jpg Jeffrey Feldman is an expert on speeches and messaging, and is the editor-in-chief of the influential political blog Frameshop. His new book, “Outright Barbarous: How The Violent Language of the Right Poisons American Democracy.” Since September 11, 2001, political debate in America has been dominated by the violent language of the Right. In books and on television, it has become a regular ritual for conservative pundits to “joke” about the deaths of members of government, particularly if they are Democrats or Liberals. And this type of violent rhetoric is not limited to the Ann Coulters of the world, but has been adopted by conservative politicians and intellectuals as well, creating a shrill discourse that silences opposition and destroys any chance for a serious debate of the issues.
In Outright Barbarous, Feldman analyzes conservative writings and speeches to show how the Right’s language of violence is polluting our civic discourse and limiting the free exchange of ideas. Included here are the words of leaders such as George Bush, Dick Cheney and Rudolph Giuliani; pundits such as Ann Coulter, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity; and intellectuals such as Dinesh D’Souza, James Dobson and Newt Gingrich. In addition to exposing the conservative obsession with violence, Feldman also shows how the civic discussion in America can be reshaped without the violent imagery of the Right, creating a healthier political climate.

Tuesday July 15 - Democratic Congressman Robert Wexler
RobertWexlerFeather.jpg Robert Wexler is an American politician from the state of Florida. He has served as a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997, representing Florida’s 19th congressional district. “Wexler opens his new book “Fire Breathing Liberal,” by saying, “I want to proclaim on every page of this book that I am a liberal Democrat and proud of it.” Fortunately for the reader, he is able to weave his proclamations into entertaining vignettes from the campaign trail to the halls of Congress in blow-by-blows of his involvement in defining moments of recent history: defending President Clinton from impeachment and challenging the Gore v. Bush decision.
After the release of the controversial new book by former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, Wexler went on record as saying he would like McClellan to testify under oath about the crimes of the Bush Administration. The Bush Administration has claimed that such proceedings would be a violation of executive privilege. On June 10, 2008, Wexler co-sponsored and signed Dennis Kucinich’s Articles of impeachment for George Bush, and stated: “President Bush deliberately created a massive propaganda campaign to sell the war in Iraq to the American people and the charges detailed in this impeachment resolution indicate an unprecedented abuse of executive power.”

Monday July 14 - Naomi Klein
NaomiKleinFeather.jpg Klein ranked 11th in an internet poll of the top global intellectuals of 2005, a list of the world’s top 100 public intellectuals compiled by Prospect magazine in conjunction with Foreign Policy magazine. She was the highest ranked woman on the list. Naomi Klein’s book The Shock Doctrine advances a truly unnerving argument: historically, while people were reeling from natural disasters, wars and economic upheavals, savvy politicians and industry leaders nefariously implemented policies that would never have passed during less muddled times. As Klein demonstrates, this reprehensible game of bait-and-switch isn’t just some relic from the bad old days. It’s alive and well in contemporary society, and coming soon to a disaster area near you.
“At the most chaotic juncture in Iraq” civil war, a new law is unveiled that will allow Shell and BP to claim the country’s vast oil reserves… Immediately following September 11, the Bush Administration quietly outsources the running of the ‘War on Terror’ to Halliburton and Blackwater… After a tsunami wipes out the coasts of Southeast Asia, the pristine beaches are auctioned off to tourist resorts… New Orleans residents, scattered from Hurricane Katrina, discover that their public housing, hospitals and schools will never be re-opened.” Klein not only kicks butt, she names names, notably economist Milton Friedman and his radical Chicago School of the 1950s and 60s which she notes “produced many of the leading neo-conservative and neo-liberal thinkers whose influence is still profound in Washington today.” Stand up and take a bow, Donald Rumsfeld.

Monday July 7 - Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney
CarolynMaloneyFeather.jpg Carolyn is the Democratic Congresswoman from New York. As a young woman, Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney asked her grandmother for career advice. She was shocked by the reply: “Get married.” Though much has changed for women since then, more has remained the same. On a January night in 2008, Maloney and her daughter attended a Hillary Clinton rally in New Hampshire. Some men in the audience held “Iron My Shirt” posters aloft. This small incident provoked outrage, but it provided an important peephole onto larger problems that women face today.
In her groundbreaking book, Rumors of Our Progress Have Been Greatly Exaggerated, Congresswoman Maloney shatters the myths about how far we’ve come, highlighting how women’s issues permeate every realm of society, and how political change has provided only a fraction of a solution. The former cochair of the Women’s Caucus, Maloney has access to a wealth of cutting-edge research that helps her illuminate how far behind we still fall on gender equality in issues from health care to educational opportunities, from poverty to reproductive freedom. It’s a fact that women are working harder than ever, but they’re still only paid three-quarters the salary of their male counterparts. She weaves this vital information with gripping stories of real women, making clear that she’s not taking some abstract political position. She’s talking about real people, real lives. Maloney also points the way forward, sharing inspiring tales of female activists who have managed to make a difference and presenting readers with “take action” guides that show all women practical ways they can help bring about change in their lives and the lives of others.

Wednesday July 2 - Stephen Heller
StephenHellerFeather.jpg Prior to filing the Articles of Impeachment, Democratic Congressman Dennis Kucinich consulted Brad Friedman of The Brad Blog about the electoral crimes of the Bush administration. Brad asked Election Protection Strike Force blogger Steve Heller to assist with research and documentation. Armed with this vital ammunition, Kucinich framed Article XXVIII, “Tampering With Free And Fair Elections, Corruption Of The Administration Of Justice,” and Article XXIX, “Conspiracy To Violate The Voting Rights Act Of 1965.” Heller became known to legions of election protection activists as the Diebold Whistle-blower in January, 2004. While working as a word processor at the law firm representing Diebold, Heller saw documents proving Diebold was violating state election laws by knowingly peddling voting machine software that had not received the state certification required by law.
Faced with a difficult moral dilemma – either say nothing and respect attorney-client privilege, or expose Diebold’s criminal acts against clean elections — Heller chose to protect our elections, and thus our Republic, by copying and releasing the documents to the press and to California’s Secretary of State. Heller continues to acknowledge that he committed a serious crime in breaking attorney-client privilege. But what is illegal is not always wrong. Meanwhile, Diebold’s defective and illegal software quickly broke down in California’s March, 2004, primary election. Diebold’s failed software left 40,000 voters unable to cast a ballot. While Heller was seen as a hero and a brave whistle-blower to election protection activists, he was indicted on three felony counts; unauthorized access to a computer, second-degree burglary, and receiving stolen goods. The charges carried a potential of 12 years in state prison. Eventually, Heller pleaded guilty to one felony count of unauthorized access to a computer, paid $10,000 in restitution to the law firm, and was sentenced to three years of probation. The other two charges were dropped. At this time, he is still on probation.

Tuesday July 1 - Christopher Cerf
ChrisCerfFeather.jpg Christopher Cerf is a U.S. author, composer-lyricist, and record and television producer. He is perhaps best known for his musical contributions to Sesame Street, for co-creating and co-producing the award-winning PBS literacy education television program Between the Lions, and for his humorous articles and books.
Christopher Cerf is perhaps best known to the general public for his work as an author and satirist. In 1970, he helped launch the National Lampoon, serving as a Contributing Editor from its first issue until the mid-1970s, and in 1978, he co-conceived and co-edited with Tony Hendra, George Plimpton and Rusty Unger the journalistic parody Not the New York Times. In 2008, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of George W. Bush’s historic (if premature) victory speech aboard the U.S.S. Lincoln, Cerf again collaborated with Victor Navasky to produce Mission Accomplished!, a compendium of misstatements, failed predictions, and outright lies uttered in connection with America’s military adventure in Iraq.

Wednesday June 18 - David Iglesias
DavidIglesiasFeather.jpg David Iglesias was appointed by President George W. Bush as the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico in August 2001 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in October 2001. He was one of eight U.S. attorneys fired by the Bush administration in 2006 for “performance-related issues.” Iglesias had received a positive performance review before he was fired. The Bush administration’s drive to politicize the executive branch reached a new low with the improper firing of seven U.S. Attorneys in late 2006. The move ignited public outrage on a scale that far surpassed the reaction to any of the Bush administration’s other political debacles. David Iglesias was one of those attorneys, and now he tells his story. His new book is titled “In Justice: Inside the Scandal That Rocked the Bush Administration.”
Iglesias has long served in the Navy as part of the JAG corps. One of his earliest cases, about an assaulted Marine in Guantanamo Bay, became the basis for the movie A Few Good Men. When Bush chose him to become the U.S. Attorney trying federal cases in New Mexico, it was a dream come true. He was a core member of Karl Rove’s idealized Republican Party of the future — handsome, Hispanic, evangelical, and a military veteran, with firmly conservative views. The dream came to an abrupt end when Senator Pete Domenici contacted Iglesias, wanting him to indict some high-level Democrats before the 2006 elections. When Iglesias refused, Domenici hung up. Iglesias was let go shortly afterwards. First, he was devastated. Then, he was angry. Now, he is speaking out — with news-breaking revelations.

Wednesday June 11 - Pat Buchanan
patbuchananfeather_1.jpg This will be Pat’s 6th appearance on the show, and we’ll have him for the entire hour. His new book is titled “Churchill, Hitler, and ‘The Unnecessary War’: How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World.” Pat is considered to be America’s leading traditional conservative. He was a senior adviser to three American presidents, ran twice for the Republican presidential nomination, in 1992 and 1996, and was the Reform Party’s candidate in 2000. The author of nine other books, including “The Death of the West;” “Where the Right Went Wrong;” and “State of Emergency”, Pat is a syndicated columnist and a founding member of three of America’s foremost public affairs shows, NBC’s The McLaughlin Group and CNN’s The Capitol Gang and Crossfire.
Were World Wars I and II—which can now be seen as a thirty-year paroxysm of slaughter and destruction—inevitable? Were they necessary wars? Were the bloodiest and most devastating conflicts ever suffered by mankind fated by forces beyond men’s control? Or were they products of calamitous failures of judgment? In this monumental and provocative history, Patrick Buchanan makes the case that, if not for the blunders of British statesmen—Winston Churchill first among them—the horrors of two world wars and the Holocaust might have been avoided and the British Empire might never have collapsed into ruins. Half a century of murderous oppression of scores of millions under the iron boot of Communist tyranny might never have happened, and Europe’s central role in world affairs might have been sustained for many generations.

Monday June 9 - Vincent Bugliosi

Tuesday June 3 - James Douglass
JamesDouglassFeather.jpg James W. Douglass is an American author, activist, and Christian theologian. He and his wife, Shelley Douglass, founded the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action in Poulsbo, Washington, and Mary’s House, a Catholic Worker house in Birmingham, Alabama. Douglass has traveled to the Middle East on several peace missions, and in 2003, joined a Christian Peacemaker Teams in Iraq and stayed with civilians during the U.S.-led invasion. Robert Ellsberg, (Orbis Books), the publisher of James’ book, “JFK and the Unspeakable: Why He Died & Why It Matters,” says “This is simply one of the most significant books I have published—or read–in the past twenty years. It is a courageous analysis of the story behind JFK’s death that is as terrifying in its exposé of the dark shadows of American history as it is inspiring in describing the challenge and risks of peacemaking.” Gaeton Fonzi, former Staff Investigator for the US House Select Committee on Assassinations, calls this book “by far the most important book yet written on the subject.”
Ellsberg continues, “Simply put, Douglass traces a sequence of steps by JFK—from the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis, right up to the week of his death—that transformed him from a conventional Cold Warrior to someone determined to pull the world back from the edge of apocalypse. These actions, including his secret back-channel dialogue with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, caused members of his own U.S. military-intelligence establishment to regard him as a dangerous traitor who had to be eliminated. Having established the motive for Kennedy’s assassination, Douglass lays out in extraordinary detail the evidence of conspiracy—particularly the efforts to establish Lee Harvey Oswald, a CIA asset of many years–as the designated assassin, who would conveniently point suspicion toward Cuban or Soviet involvement.” As author Ched Myers notes, “This book has the potential to change our narrative about our country, and our lives as citizens and disciples.”

Wednesday May 14 - Democratic Congressman, Patrick Murphy
PatrickMurphyFeather.jpg Patrick Murphy is the Democratic Congressman from Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district, an attorney, and a U.S. Army soldier. Murphy is the first, and to date, only veteran of the Iraq War to serve in Congress. Several other Iraq War veterans ran for Congressional seats in 2006 (ie: Tammy Duckworth), but lost their respective races. Murphy was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. At 34 years old, he is also one of the youngest members of Congress. Murphy, a Democrat, narrowly defeated Republican incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick, a freshman Republican, in the 2006 election for Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district.
Murphy has taught American politics and government at Mount Saint Mary’s University. In 2000, he went on active duty in the Army, joining the military faculty at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he taught constitutional law. He has also lectured at the U.S. Air Force Academy, the International Institute for Humanitarian Rights in Sanremo, Italy, and at Widener. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, Murphy volunteered for overseas deployment, serving in Bosnia (2002) and in Baghdad during the Iraq War (2003–04). Murphy opposed President Bush’s plan to add more troops to the Iraq War in 2007. He was a cosponsor, with Senator Barack Obama and Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA) of the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007, which unsuccessfully aimed to develop a plan to redeploy American troops out of Iraq starting May 1, 2007, however a majority of Republicans as well as the President opposed the measure and it died in Congress. Patrick’s new book is titled “Taking the Hill: From Philly to Baghdad to the United States Congress.”

Monday April 28 - Bill Press
BillPressFeather.jpg One of the country’s most well-known progressive commentators writes how–and why–the conservative movement went off the rails in his new book “Trainwreck: The End of the Conservative Revolution (and Not a Moment Too Soon).” According to even Newt Gingrich, “Republicans have lost their way.” Always better with one-liners than worthwhile policies, John McCain recently said, “We spent money like a drunken sailor. Although I never really knew a sailor, drunk or sober, with the imagination of my colleagues.”
Bill Press, however, says the Republicans have been governing exactly the way you’d expect. If a politician’s most basic belief is that government always fails, why would anyone think he’d try to prove otherwise? Trainwreck details the rise of the modern conservative movement from Robert Taft to Ronald Reagan and its fall from Newt Gingrich to the abject failure of George W. Bush. Once champions of fiscal responsibility, conservatives have brought us, instead, record high federal spending and bloated budget deficits. Once leery of foreign entanglements, conservatives have launched us, instead, into an unprecedented age of imperial wars and conquests. Once apostles of honesty and integrity in government, conservatives have, instead, used their positions of power to enrich themselves or evade the rule of law. For decades, conservatives struggled to topple liberals from the federal throne, but, once in power, they didn’t deliver. Everything they touched, they trashed. Here is the story of who, how, and why.

Friday April 25 - Julie Rada
JulieRadaFeather.jpg Julie is the star of the one-woman play, “My Name is Rachel Corrie.” Rachel is the American activist who was killed on March 16, 2003, in the Gaza Strip while trying to stop what she believed was an attempt by an Israeli bulldozer to demolish a Palestinian family’s home. She was just weeks shy of her 24th birthday. But was her death cold-blooded murder or a tragic accident? Was the bulldozer that caused her death attempting to destroy houses or to scrape up shrubbery suspected of concealing tunnels used for weapons smuggling? Did the bulldozer run down Corrie or was she killed by debris it had unearthed?
My Name Is Rachel Corrie” was put together by English actor Alan Rickman and journalist Katharine Viner from Rachel’s journals and e-mails, and it reveals not only a deep-burning passion for justice, but sensitivity, a playful sense of humor, the usual teenage insecurities and a loving heart. Rickman directed the play’s first performance in April 2005 at the Royal Court in London. A scheduled performance in March 2006 at the New York Theater Workshop was postponed indefinitely, allegedly because of concerns about adverse reaction from the Jewish community. That, of course, stirred up controversy. The rap on the play is that it is one-sided, and a Web site, rachelcorriefacts.org, was set up to present other sides of the story. Rada said the play is indeed one-sided, but it could not have been any other way. “It is a very subjective story,” she said. “It is almost all Rachel Corrie’s writings. Very few words are not hers. I think it would be dangerous to lose touch with the fact that this is one person’s view of what she sees happening.”
MyNameIsRachelCorrie.jpg There will be 2 performances of “My Name is Rachel Corrie” here in Las Vegas, on Saturday, May 3 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM… Cost: $10 Suggested Donation… Location: Spiritual Life Center, 1420 E. Harmon, Las Vegas, 89119… Reservations suggested at 702-812-7957

Thursday April 24, 2008 - Cindy Sheehan
CindySheehanFeather.jpg Cindy lost her son in Iraq back in 2004, and shortly thereafter, founded Gold Star Families for Peace. Cindy is running for Congress this year, and in so doing, is taking on California’s 8th District Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House and the ranking Democrat who – as Cindy puts it - stood stalwart against any talk of impeachment against the most corrupt, most impotent, most undemocratic president in American history. Yes, it’s Cindy vs. Pelosi, Bush and Cheney. It’s Davida vs. Goliath. In response to skeptics who wonder if Cindy can beat Nancy, if she can trounce the House Goliath of corporate politics, Sheehan responds, “ just read the bible to see who wins.” “In my view”, says Sheehan “ two interrelated factors largely explain how the Pelosi /Bush/Cheney team have managed to push the United States so far in surrendering its historic concepts of democracy and freedom. One has been the control of information; the other the manipulation of fear.
Cindy speaks passionately of her vision of security through peace and the rule of law and of the need for the United States to sign on to the Kyoto Protocol to stem global warming. The issues closest to her political heart, and the issues that matter most to the 8th district, center on job creation and opposition to the 3 trillion dollar, $100,000-dollar-a-minute, $423 million-a-day Iraq war — a waste of taxpayer resources which drains the 8th and all districts of vital funds for jobs, education, and health care. The reason I am running,” Sheehan states, “is we need a fundamental change in the policies that affect millions of Americans.” A fierce advocate for public campaign financing, Sheehan contends in no-nonsense terms: “As long as the special interests pay to elect the pols, we will have government of the special interests, by the special interests and for the special interests. one of the most dangerous things about this whole corrupt system is that people who are given special privileges inevitably come to regard them not as special but as natural and right, and will fight furiously if you try to take them away.” Click here to visit Cindy’s campaign web site.

Monday April 14, 2008 - Valerie Bertinelli
ValerieFeather.jpg Valerie Bertinelli. Then: bubbly sitcom star and America’s Sweetheart turned tabloid headline and rock star wife. Now: actress, single working mother of teenage rock star, and weight-loss inspiration to millions. We all knew and loved Valerie Bertinelli years ago when she played girl-next-door cutie Barbara Cooper in the hit TV show One Day at a Time, and then starred in numerous TV movies. From wholesome primetime in America’s living rooms, Valerie moved to late nights with the hardest-partying band of the decadent eighties when she became, at twenty, wife to rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Losing It is Valerie’s frank account of her life backstage and in the spotlight. Here are the ups and downs of teen stardom, of her complicated marriage to a brilliant, tormented musical genius, and of her very public struggle with her weight.
Surprising, uplifting, and empowering, Losing It takes you behind the scenes of Valerie’s acting career and marriage, recalling the comforts, friendships, and problems of her television family, her close relationships with her parents and brothers, the stress and worries of being the wife of a rock star, and the joys of motherhood. Like many women, Valerie often remembers the state of her life by the food she ate and the numbers on her scale. So despite her celebrity, Valerie’s voice is down-to-earth, honest, and appealing. Funny and candid, Valerie recounts her attempts to maintain a healthy self-image while dealing with social pressures to look and act a certain way, and to overcome career insecurities and relationship problems, all of which will be familiar to the hundreds of thousands of women who struggle every day with these same issues. From marital turmoil to the joys of a new career, from being named among Penthouse’s ten sexiest women in the world to overhearing whispers about her weight gain in the grocery store, this is Valerie’s inspiring journey as she finds new love, raises a terrific kid, and motivates other women as a spokesperson for Jenny Craig.

Tuesday April 8 - Norman Solomon
NormanSolomonFeather.jpg Norman Solomon is the founder and executive director of the “Institute for Public Accuracy,” a national consortium of policy researchers and analysts. The latest collection of his columns won the 1999 George Orwell Award for Distinguished Contribution to Honesty and Clarity in Public Language. He has authored eleven books, including The Habits of Highly Deceptive Media and Target Iraq: What the Media Didn’t Tell You. His book “War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death” was published in 2005. It has recently been turned into a documentary film, narrated by actor Sean Penn.
The Los Angeles Times called “War Made Easy” “brutally persuasive” and “a must-read for those who would like greater context with their bitter morning coffee, or to arm themselves for the debates about Iraq that are still to come.” The film “War Made Easy” exposes a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of successive presidential administrations. War Made Easy gives special attention to parallels between the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq. Guided by media critic Norman Solomon’s meticulous research and tough-minded analysis, the film presents disturbing examples of propaganda and media complicity from the present alongside rare footage of political leaders and leading journalists from the past.

Wednesday April 2 - Paul Waldman
paulwaldmanfeather.jpg Paul Waldman has authored and co-authored a number of books on media and politics, worked in electoral campaigns and political consulting, and edited an online magazine. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and is a Senior Fellow at Media Matters for America Action Network. His latest book – which he co-authored with David Brock, author of “Blinded by the Right” - is titled, “Free Ride: The Media and John McCain.”
David Brock and Paul Waldman show how the media has enabled McCain’s rise from the Keating Five scandal to the underdog hero of the 2000 primaries to his roller-coaster run for the 2008 nomination. They illuminate how the press falls for McCain’s “straight talk” and how the Arizona senator gets away with inconsistencies and misrepresentations for which the media skewers other politicians. This is a fascinating study of how the media shape the political debate, and an essential book for every political junkie.

Thursday March 20 - Martin Fletcher
MartinFletcherFeather.jpg Martin Fletcher is one of the most respected foreign correspondents in television news. He has covered almost every conflict and natural disaster in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East for thirty-five years, winning five Emmies, a Columbia University Dupont Award, several Overseas Press Club awards, and a cameraman’s award from Britain’s Royal Society of television. Fletcher and his wife, Hagar, have raised three sons. He is currently based in Israel, where he is NBC News bureau chief in Tel Aviv.
Martin Fletcher doesn’t claim to be a hero. Yet he didn’t flinch, either. During three decades covering wars, revolutions, and natural disasters, Fletcher worked his way from news agency cameraman to top network correspondent, facing down his own fears while facing up to mass killers, warlords, and murderers. With humor and elegance, Fletcher describes his growth from clueless adventurer to grizzled veteran of the world’s battlefields. His working philosophy of “Get in, get close, get out, get a drink,” put him repeatedly in harm’s way, but he never lost sight of why he did it. In a world obsessed with celebrities, leaders, and wealth, Fletcher took a different route: he focused on those left behind, those paying the price. He answers the question: Why should we care?

He knows how to cut through the financial gibberish of politicians and hold them to account for their actions.
Andrew is a local entrepreneur and employer who knows what it takes for small businesses to succeed. He is deeply concerned about a biased tax code that favors established political interests over new technologies and industries, about rising health care costs, about regulations contrary to common sense, about credit crunches that hurt small business, about young workers not having practical skills when they enter the workforce, and many more impediments to vibrant economic growth. Friday March 5, 2008 - Andrew Feder
andrewfederfeather.jpg Having lived several lives in one, Andrew Feder during the eighties lived in Israel on a Moshav for six years as a grape farmer, and after returning to the United States, for the next ten years, he was a contractor and owner of a construction company. In the late nineties, he drove a cab and a limo during hiatus while working as an assistant director in the film industry. At the end of the nineties, he moved to Las Vegas from Los Angeles, where for one year, he was (and hates to admit it) a “damn” telemarketer selling long distance, and for the past five years he’s been a graphic artist. From his college years, he wrote several editorials and short stories. Much later, during the so-called midlife crisis, he evolved in his development to include writing both novels and poems along with subsequent screenplays.
When a man begins experiencing bizarre dreams, a visit to a psychic transports him to the time of Alexander the Great, and he discovers the amazing truth about his past in Andrew Feder’s new historical fiction novel, The Heretic, the sequel to When The Angels Have Risen. After questioning his bizarre dreams and an unexplained sudden knowledge of ancient Greek, Jerry Fletcher seeks the help of a psychic, who suggests that he undergo past life regression. Under this treatment, Jerry begins remembering his past lives -a Jew during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, a young Arapaho brave, a knight during the Middle Ages - until he stops in Ancient Greece with Aias, a Spartan who was renowned during his time as the world’s greatest warrior, but whose name went unrecorded in history.

In a profile in The New York Times, Chris Hedges called Callahan “a new liberal with old values.” Since its publication, The Cheating Culture has been reviewed or discussed in numerous newspapers and magazines. He has also lectured widely on the book to business groups and university audiences, frequently as a keynote speaker.
In addition to The Cheating Culture, Callahan is the author of six other books. These include his latest book, “The Moral Center: How Progressives Can Unite America Around Our Shared Values,” which examines how a market-based economy, i.e. capitalism, with its focus on pursuing self interest, undermines the moral fabric of U.S. society. Callahan argues that powerful market forces have eroded family life, led to a more crass and violent media, fanned a new wave of criminality among the upper classes, and undermined the value of work. The American Prospect has called The Moral Center “fresh and provocative.”

She served as the Democratic candidate for the open seat of Nevada’s 2nd congressional district in the 2006 election. She is currently chairwoman of Nevada Democratic Party. She identifies as a moderate politician with a “unique understanding of the most significant issues of the day – from education to the Middle East.” Her campaign focused on making health care affordable to combat the double digit increase in Nevadian family health care costs. This also included lowering prescription drugs and overcome the prescription drug bill, which “Congress passed was by and for the pharmaceutical industry, not patients.”
She also mains to restore fiscal responsibility. She noted, “politicians have created runaway deficits with wasteful spending, pet projects like the Alaskan bridge to nowhere, and special interests tax giveaways like billions for the oil companies.” She promises to “restore fiscal discipline in Washington, support a balanced budget, and pay down the national debt.” Her stance on the Iraq War has been that Americans should “win the war once and for all.” She believes “career politicians in both parties have failed to craft a plan to win the war and get the job done. Now that we’re there, we’ve got to finish what we started, honor the sacrifice of our service men and women, and built a stable peace. I’ll stand up to leaders in both parties who claim we don’t need a plan, and hold them accountable for success. And I’ll stand up to leaders in my own party and oppose an immediate withdrawal.”Click here to visit the Nevada State Democratic Party’s web site.

With over 2,000 private readings from that one show, Glynis realized she could not keep up with the volume. Glynis has been studying Numerology for 19 years. She uses the Pythagoras Number system, which is over 2,500 years old. Wednesday November 7 - Valerie Plame-Wilson
ValeriePlameFeather.jpg Valerie Plame Wilson is a former United States CIA officer who worked as a classified covert intelligence agent for over twenty years and the wife of former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson, IV. On 14 July 2003 Robert Novak identified “Wilson’s wife” publicly as “an agency operative on weapons of mass destruction” named “Valerie Plame” in his syndicated column in The Washington Post. In that column Novak was responding to an “op-ed” entitled “What I Didn’t Find in Africa,” written by former Ambassador Wilson and published in the New York Times the previous week, on July 6, 2003.
In his op-ed, former Ambassador Wilson states that the George W. Bush administration exaggerated unreliable claims that Iraq intended to purchase uranium yellowcake to support the administration’s arguments that Iraq was proliferating weapons of mass destruction so as to justify its preemptive war in Iraq.
Novak’s public disclosure of Mrs. Wilson’s then-still-classified covert CIA identity as “Valerie Plame” led to a CIA leak grand jury investigation, resulting in the indictment and successful prosecution of Lewis Libby in United States v. Libby for perjury, obstruction of justice, and making false statements to federal investigators, in the Wilsons’ civil lawsuit (Plame v. Cheney) against current and former government officials (dismissed on July 19, 2007 in U.S. District Court in a decision appealed the next day), and in continuing related controversy. The controversy related to the leak of Plame’s identity and subsequent legal and political action is sometimes referred to as the Plame Affair. Her autobiography is titled, “Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House.”

Unbelievably, the president is now threatening to veto this critical legislation.”

EricBoehlertFeather.jpg A senior fellow at Media Matters for America, and a former senior writer for Salon, Boehlert’s first book is titled, “Lapdogs: How The Press Rolled Over for Bush.” Lapdogs is the first book to demonstrate that, for the entire George W. Bush presidency, the news media have utterly failed in their duty as watchdog for the public. In blistering prose, Eric Boehlert reveals how, time after time, the press chose a soft approach to covering the government, and as a result reported and analyzed crucial events incompletely and even inaccurately. From WMDs to Valerie Plame to the NSA’s domestic spying, mainstream fixtures such as The New York Times, CBS, CNN, and Time magazine too often ignored the administration’s missteps and misleading words, and did not call out the public officials who betrayed the country’s trust. Finally, in Lapdogs, the press is being held accountable by one of its own.

Saturday February 24, 2007 - Elizabeth De La Vega
ElizabethDeLaVegasFeather.jpg What if there were a fraud worse than Enron and no one did anything about it? In United States v. George W. Bush et. al., former federal prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega brings her twenty years of experience and her passion for justice to the most important case of her career. The defendants are George W Bush, Richard Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleezza Rice, and Colin Powell. The crime is tricking the nation into war, or, in legal terms, conspiracy to defraud the United States. The legal question is: Did the president and his team use the same techniques as those used by Enron’s Ken Lay, Jeffrey Skilling, and fraudsters everywhere — false pretenses, half-truths, deliberate omissions — in order to deceive Congress and the American public?
